What is STY and how it is treated!!!

Inflammation of the sebaceous glands of the upper or lower eyelid is called stye.

Due to the visual similarity with a grain of barley this disease in some regions is also called the sty. It can be localized to the outer and the inner edge of the eyelid. The edge of the lid is thickened, appears swollen, hard, painful changes in the form of ‘ball’. The swelling can be so great that can completely close the opening lid. The patient is very upset about it and immediately seeks the help of ophthalmologists.

It occurs as a result of local accumulation of fat mucous secretions in the gland ducts at the edge of the eyelids, which naturally is always created and secreted, a person feels the presence of a foreign body and unconsciously rubs that part of the eyelid with the fingers. On the fingers there are almost always present numerous bacteria, usually staphylococcus, which infects the accumulated secretion. It begins the inflammatory process, and it’s resulting with red painful lump closer or further from the edge of the eyelid.

A sty on some people occurs more frequently while some have never had and what is the exact reason for this has not yet been reliably established.

People who naturally have a skin that is increasingly prone to get oily, sty occurs more frequently, as well as when there is a chronic, seasonal inflammation edges of the eyelids.

Emergence of sty, tend to people who ignore their usually low refractive defect, do not wear glasses and tortured their eyes as those who spend the whole day in front of a computer screen.

It is noticed that the sty occurs more frequently with children who cannot refrain from rubbing the eyes as well as within diabetics. It was noted that it is common among people who have a deficiency of vitamin B and among people with the disorder in the growth of eyelashes, eyelash with fragile or too long lashes. Staying in dirty environments that cause increased lacrimation may also damage the edge of the eyelid and and create the conditions for the emergence of the stye.

A stye is more aesthetic than a health issue, but how it’s treated?

It looks ugly but the treatment is relatively easy. In most cases, the change is withdrawn using fats or oils of 1% chloramphenikola, and wash with mild antiseptic solutions as it Boric acid 3%, specially prepared for eyewash (ask your doctor or pharmacist, don’t experiment with something you find at home, it has to be specially prepared for the eye!). What is most important in the treatment of this condition is the heating the infected spot with dry warm coverings, which keep the heat, more often and for longer during the day. This process accelerates the calming of the inflammation and spread Abstract tubules while increasing the likelihood of evacuation of retained secretions.

At intense inflammation, pain and swelling, particularly on the upper eyelid, consult your doctor, and most probably will result with prescribing some antibiotics in the form of drops.
